Here's what you need!

The preferred currency to use when travelling in Africa is USD (please note the head on the dollar notes to be "big"). The Rand currency may be used in Namibia, Zimbabwe and Mozambique.
If you are not the registered owner of the vehicle, you should obtain a letter of authorization, on an original letterhead, from the owner/ financial institution and a copy of the registration papers.
Ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months.
3rd party insurance is compulsory for every country.
